Get your TV series fix at the library—June 3, 2011
It seems like recently a lot of books and series have been turned into TV shows or miniseries. If you are looking for a good book or the TV adaptations come in to Hastings Public Library and see what we have to offer.
One book series that has been really popular recently is the Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris. These books follow telepathic waitress Sookie Stackhouse as she deals with supernatural creatures such as vampires and werewolves in her small town of Bon Temps Louisiana. HBO has made these books in the TV show True Blood. Come in a check out any of the books in the series, the newest being Dead Reckoning, or seasons 1 thru 3 of the hit TV series.
Another great TV series that is great for the whole family is the Heartland TV show based on the book series of the same name by Lauren Brooke. Heartland follows teenage horse whisper Amy Fleming who must help take care of the family ranch after the death of her mother. Along the way she meets troubled Ty Borden who comes to Heartland Ranch as a farm hand as part of his parole and works with horses to help keep the Ranch from going under.
For fans of war books, try The Pacific by Hugh Ambrose and Band of Brothers by Stephen E. Ambrose. Both of these non-fiction books have been made into miniseries by HBO and both are available at HPL.
Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett has also recently been made into a miniseries. This book takes place in the town of Kingsbridge during the middle of the twelfth century, where the lives of those who are working to build the most amazing Gothic cathedral in the world become entwined through their ambitions, loves, and tribulations.
For teens try The Vampire Diaries, the books are written by L.J. Smith, and tell the tale of two vampire brothers who compete for high stakes, the love of Elena Gilbert, a beautiful high school senior who is searching for excitement. Also available is the first season of the television series.
Finally for fans of the TV series Bones try some of the books on which it is based, the Temperance Brennan series by Kathy Reichs. The library also has the first few seasons of the show Bones.
So if you find yourself looking for something to read or watch this summer come to the library this summer and check out a great book or TV series.
