Adventures begin at the libary—August 30, 2013
Shhh. I have a secret. I have fallen in love again.
They have everything I could ever want or need. They’re popular and interesting. They know just about everything about everything. And they know just how to treat me.
It’s been a while since I felt the giddiness of a new relationship, and yet it feels like we have always known each other. We were close friends when I was younger, and I felt like we grew apart. When I was younger though, the world was opened up to me because of my relationship, my love affair with the Library, and I have recently rekindled that spark.
The vast settings and adventures contained with the volumes of work were endless. I could be battling dragons in the morning and hiding with my family behind the walls, fearful of soldiers finding us by the afternoon. There were no limits to the places I could go.
My time with books spurred my imagination, my creativity, and my belief in the impossible becoming possible. Anything I wanted to know could be discovered, all I had to do was look. And what was true then is just as true now.
The Library can be whatever you want it to be or need it to be. It can be the knight in shining armor to rescue you from a mundane life. It can be the romance novel to add some flair and spice to a chilly night. It can be the how-to book that leads to a sense of accomplishment and achievement.
There are events and activities that can lead to better connections in the community. You can meet authors and artists. You can chase figments of fancy in the stacks or explore dark woods where monsters lurk. Join a detective in solving a mystery or have tea with an alien. There are no bounds to what can be learned and experienced. So I fell in love with the Library.
I let my heart take flight. My boarding pass is my Library Card and I have unlimited miles.
September is National Sign up for a Library Card Month. For details on how easy it is to book your next adventure, please come in and one of our attendants will be able to guide you through the process. If you are like me, and have let your connection to the Library fade, now is the perfect time to fall in love all over again and see what new things we have to offer.
