Now is the time to renew one of
Hastings' greatest community assets!

Hastings Public Library has stood on the corner of 4th Street and Denver Avenue
since 1904, providing all citizens with free access to information,
inspiration and enlightenment from sources around the world.

The original Andrew Carnegie Library was replaced in 1963 by our current
facility, which has received precious few updates.

Features

Imagine your library as a natural community-gathering place.

The Hastings Public Library renovation project is designed to enhance the library experience for visitors of every age and ability – for generations to come.

  • Our new entrance will be on the southwest corner of the building, where it will be easier to keep ice-free. Having no steps, and being located directly across from the city parking lot will make it more accessible for everyone.
  • Transforming much of the basement into a new children’s area, will allow the public space in Hastings Public Library to increase by 6800 square feet.
  • The expanded children’s area will include a story time room, and books will be placed at age-appropriate heights.
  • Reading lounges throughout the facility, will feature natural lighting, comfortable seating, and community gathering places.
  • Computers will be available on all levels of Hastings Public Library, in separate areas for all age groups.
  • The renovated Library will offer three meeting rooms and several small group study rooms.
  • Bookshelves will be 66" tall instead of 90" tall, making books more accessible.

Budget

The budget for rennovating our current facility is $5 million.

Our current building can be transformed into a facility that can better serve as a community gathering place, and meet the needs of future generations.

Hastings voters demonstrated their support of Hastings Public Library by approving a half-cent sales tax that is expected to generate $1.5 million for this renovation. But much more is needed from our community partnership, in the form of an additional $3.5 million to accomplish our goal. One of Hastings' greatest assets needs your help now more than ever before.
